What can I do to help?

Phyte4Food encourages everyone to get involved with combating the current phosphorus crisis, but we know that it can be a challenge for some. No worries, here are a few tips that we recommend you home, land, and garden owners employ as you get started:

-When shopping, choose detergents, cleaners, and soaps with low or no added phosphates

-Be mindful of food scraps, leaf litter, and pet waste

-Whether you have a farm or garden, use only the amount of fertilizer that is needed. Getting your soil tested before using fertilizers is an efficient way of knowing how much fertilizer you need to use. In some cases, depending on the results of the test, there’s a chance you may not even need to use fertilizer or can use less fertilizer to grow healthy plants

-Preventing these items from entering into waterways, sinks, and sewers truly helps prevent excess phosphorus from accumulating!
