Phyte4Food is a USDA NIFA funded initiative designed to bring awareness to the growing global phosphorus crisis.
Phyte4Food s an illustrated outreach initiative that provides the information and resources needed to understand the phosphorus crisis and how we can protect this precious resource for generations to come.
Phosphorus is important for all life on earth. Our DNA, cells, and metabolism are built from and powered by phosphorus from the food we eat. While critically important, phosphorus is a limited and nonrenewable resource. It is harvested and used at an unsustainable rate to keep up with the increasing global demand for food. Moreover, phosphorus runoff from farms and urban areas enters into the watersheds and causes algal blooms. To secure our food and enhance phosphorus sustainability, we have created “Phyte4Food”
Phyte4Food presents information that can be digested by audiences as young as those with a middle school education level by providing educational resources such as illustrative media and enlightening podcasts.
